Faith or Complacency?

For two years in between my secondary and university education, I attended A Levels in Johannesburg. I have absolutely lovely memories of SA, so I am particularly horrified by the ongoing Xenophobic attacks. It could have been my friends and I stabbed and mutilated during one of our trips to Clearwater Mall, Spar, or Gold Reef City. Notwithstanding, I loved my experience at ALA so much that I personally convinced my younger brother (who turned 17 a few weeks ago) to apply. I remember editing one particular essay question that asked him to imagine a moment in his future. In my brother’s essay, he had obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from a top American University and was about to begin work with a pan-African team to revitalize hydro electric power generation. In the essay, he (my brother) was excited to speak with our Grandma. She was a beneficiary of this scheme and was running a small business in the village that had grown tremendously because of the near constant power supply. Unfortunately, my grandmother died a few …

Don’t take it Personal, it’s not about you!

Last summer, I had my first working experience ever. I was almost as nervous as I was excited. However, I could not have been more blessed by God. Not only did the parents of a very good friend of mine graciously welcome me to their home, I worked with people who I believe were divinely placed in my life. On my last day at the internship, the associates had a little farewell gathering for the other intern and I. They associates had very lovely words of appreciation and encouragement for me, and there were also tears in abundance. I hear even my boss shed a few tears as well. Even if I doubted, that day I realized that it was purely the Lord who graced with that experience. I really received a lot of love and wisdom at my internship. The Lord really showed me that it pays to work according to His plans because I had prayed against interning in Lagos as my family lives in Abuja. Either way, I still don’t know how I …

The man who did not Die

Hello friends, Have any of you heard about the man Enoch? He is the man who did not die. There are other people in the Bible who did not die such as Elijah (my personal best friend) that was carried to glory in a fiery chariot. Yesterday in my Open Heavens devotional by Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, I read an interesting analogy about Enoch which I think is worth sharing. Again, if you send me your email address, I will pay for you to receive Open Heavens in your inbox daily.  …whenever God visited Enoch and He was about to leave, Enoch will escort God, and when it was time for Enoch to return home, God would do the same. Eventually, one day, after several repetitions of this exercise, Enoch escorted God so close to Heaven that God told him to walk with Him into Heaven. As childish as this may sound, there are lots of lessons and revelations in what this boy said. The desire to maintain intimate friendship …

Speaking Volumes to my Soul

Hello everyone, It’s been a while, sorry. I am that friend who promises to call/ text back and plans to, but just never gets around to it. Sigh. That should really be a Lenten goal at some point. Have you read my February Recap yet? Please do! Today, I want to share two songs that are currently speaking volumes to my soul. They are great for calming the nerves, and for when we need to remind ourselves that Our Father has promised to take care of us. The first song is called Praise You in this Storm. This song is reminiscent of the last days at ALevels when I was awaiting college decisions and life was filled with uncertainty about my future, and the grief of leaving a school I loved so much. But today, I’m more than grateful to God for the opportunity to be in Mount Holyoke College. This leads me to the second song- Already There. It reminds me that no matter what, God knows where He has planned for me to be, …

He’s still God in the bad times!

I heard this song for the first time two days ago at Daughters of Zion– our Christian fellowship group on campus. The song spoke volumes to my heart, and I’m sharing since I’m on this encouragement roll right now! See here and here. God On the Mountain (Lynda Randle) Life is easy, when you’re up on the mountain And you’ve got peace of mind, like you’ve never known. But things change, when you’re down in the valley. Don’t lose faith, for you’re never alone. For the God on the mountain, is the God in the valley. When things go wrong, He’ll make them right. And the God of the good times is still God in the bad times. The God of the day is still God in the night. We talk of faith way up on the mountain. Talk comes so easy when life’s at its best. Now down in the valleys, of trials and temptations That’s where your faith, is really put to the test. For the God on the mountain is the God in the …

Keep Waiting- Do not create counterfeits!

I saw the quote below on Heather Lindsey’s blog. Heather is a minister, and she and her husband are Pastors of The Gathering Oasis Church. You can name it, claim it, throw money at it, dance around it, scream, shout and wiggle but if it ain’t time for God to open up that door, you may be SO focused on that area that the enemy sends you a counterfeit. That counterfeit will look like God’s best, sound like God’s best, have the best benefits plan & everything will look sparkly & perfect but you will have a little tug in your heart that says.. no. You see, it wasn’t God’s timing for that thing, so you ran ahead of Him & created an Ishmael while ignoring that tug that says no. God’s best in ANY area takes great development, tests to uproot the garbage in you, trusting in the Lord, faith & rest. So, calm your rushed soul. HE has not forgotten about you. -Heather Lindsey I’m not sure why, but I have been really moved by scripture …

WAIT on the Lord- Your appointed time is coming soon!

I read this a few days ago in my devotional. I am currently subscribed to Open Heavens by Pastor Adeboye. It’s a lovely daily devotional- very easy to understand and the daily messages are not too lengthy! I will subscribe for you if you send me your email address. No, really, please send me your email address and I’ll subscribe for you so you don’t have to pay a dime! Moreover, in God’s timetable, there is a time for the fulfillment of prophecy. To be destined for such a glorious position in the agenda of the Almighty God is not a general gift and not by accident. It is usually for a purpose – a divine purpose. When your time of fulfillment of prophecy comes, … God will suspend natural laws and break protocols for your sake. He will make ways for you where there is no way. He will connect you to your destiny-helpers, and your journey to success will be accelerated. – Pastor Adeboye, Open Heavens Hold on, your time of favor is coming! Habakkuk 2: …

6 Lessons from my 6 Year Old Sister

‘Do you know the one thing I admire most about you?’, he asked. He had the expression of someone about to spill a succulent secret. ‘You’re very childlike. Don’t ever lose that’. That was the one of the best compliment I ever got in recent times (Not like I’m ancient or anything). I would love to share why with you. It also has everything to do with the fact that I have the sassiest, most confident, and smartest 6 year old sister ever! Here are a few lessons I have learned from children, and especially from my sister:

A lifelong Friendship of Love and Loyalty

Babe, I understand that this is a difficult time for us. School is getting more stressful, we’re trying to beat that incline on the treadmill, and we’re lifting more weights by the day. On top of that, I don’t always feed you as I should. I don’t always get as much sleep as I should. I don’t even do all the little things I should do, like give you a thorough wash as often as I should- I dash into the shower, and just when you’re soaking up the warmth and finally relaxing, I have to rush out. We’re surviving though, because you tell me in very gentle ways how to care for you. We probably would be in a much worse situation if not for your unrelenting signals.
